Printer Is Not Working
1 Check all cables, power and parallel cable from the printer to the PC
2 If there is an error on the printer look in the manual what it means
3 Is the software installed? Go to the printer section in the control panel. Does the printer show? If not install the software driver. Right click on the printer, is there a tick next to the “Set as default” field
4 Is the printers toner empty?? Some printers stop printing when the toner is low/empty
Will PC133 or PC100 memory work on a motherboard that has a 66 Mhz Front Side Bus (FSB)?
YES. In general, SDRAM is backward compatible and can run at bus speeds slower than that for which it is rated. For example, the 128 Mbytes of PC133 memory I have in my computer with an EpoX MVP3G2 Super 7 motherboard, which supports PC100 memory, works with a 100 Mhz FSB.. There are a few older 66 Mhz motherboards that will not work PC100 or PC133 memory, but they are exceptions, not the rule.
Will EDO modules work in my 486DX2-66?
No. EDO memory is designed for Pentium style motherboards (64 bit) and will cause errors or no-boot if used in a 486 system. Install 72-pin non-EDO memory.
My Computer Wont Turn On
Check the following
1 Is the pc and monitor power cables connected? Do the lights come on, on the pc and monitor?
2 Has the fuse blown in the plug??
3 Is the plug socket working? Plug another device in that you know works
4 Is the monitor cable plugged into the pc correctly?? Re-seat if it looks okay
5 Is the PC beeping?? If yes look up what the beeps mean in your motherboard manual
6 Reseat the processor and memory
7 Serious problem, Most likely the motherboard has developed a fault and needs replacing.
Why Does the Price of Memory Fluctuate?
Supply and demand. Occasional changes in market demands will alter inventories and, therefore, raise or lower prices.
Do companies provide alternative keyboards?
Companies take several different approaches to alternative keyboards which range from not providing them at all, or providing them only on medical prescription/injury accommodation, to the more progressive companies that keep a few alternative keyboards on hand for employees to try out. Increased costs of alternative keyboards and concerns about jumping on the bandwagon of an alternative keyboard before there is actual research to indicate that it is better, slows distribution of these keyboards, else they may find out that it actually causes more problems. Company ergonomists tend to focus more on how employees use their keyboard, rather than the type of keyboard they use.
What’s the difference between buffered and unbuffered DIMMs?
High density DIMMs have lots of chips on them and therefore possess a higher capacitive load on the address and control signals in comparison to lower density DIMMs. Some designers use re-drive buffers on the DIMM to boost the signals to reduce system loading when compared to the same high density module without buffers. But, the buffers introduce a small delay into the electrical signal, so adding buffers to a standard density module would have the effect of slowing down the signal, compared to the same low density module without buffers.
What is the performance difference between CL2 and CL3?
CL2 parts process data a little quicker than CL3 parts in that you have to wait one less clock cycle for the initial data. However, after the first piece of data is processed, the rest of the data is processed at equal speeds. Latency only affects the initial burst of data. Once data starts flowing, there is no effect. Bear in mind, a clock cycle for a PC100 module is 10 nanoseconds so you probably won’t notice a significant performance difference. Most systems will accept either latency part. However, there are some systems that require either CL2 or CL3 parts. nominal speed differences are from 1-3% on average, effectively negligible.
When I turn my computer on a blue screen is displayed with white writing every time I start my machine. What can I do?
This is a serious error!! There are hundreds of reasons why this happens. The following are the first steps you should take,,
-Have you installed any new hardware recently? If you have remove it and try to boot again. If the computer boots correctly then you know it is your hardware that is faulty. Take it back to where you bought it and get it replaced.
-Try removing hardware devices in your system. Power down your system and unplug all devices you can such as, Modems, Sound Cards, Scanners, External storage devices etc. Then boot up your system. If computer boots with out blue screening install all the hardware one device at a time, You will now find the device that is causing the problem.
-If the above fails then look at the first numbers on the top left hand side of the screen, they should show something like 0×00000001E simply goto the Microsoft web site and look up the error code, You will then find out how to fix the problem.
What is the difference between Ram and Virtual Memory?
RAM and virtual memory are two different things. Virtual memory allows you to use a portion of your hard drive as though it were RAM. Because your hard drive is up to 100 times slower than your RAM, virtual memory is much slower than RAM.
When you upgrade your RAM, you may discover that you use your virtual memory less because you will now have more memory available to complete the tasks that were previously handled by your virtual memory.
